No-CD & No-DVD Patch troubleshooting: The most common problem getting a No-CD/No-DVD patch to work is ensuring that the No-CD/No-DVD patch matches you're game version, because the games exe is changed when a patch update is applied previous versions won't work.

If its an older game you are playing and you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8 it may not work, if you right click the .exe file and choose Properties and then Compatibility you can change this to run in Windows 98/ Windows 2000 etc. You can find more information on the Beginners Help page here

As sim golf becomes more popular, maybe that will change. While GSA users are welcomed to use the patch if they want, I for one do not want my sim's accuracy to be sacrificed in order for me to shoot 2 strokes lower. The patch is there for people who want it, regardless of sim.

I have tried the program compatibility shooter. It attempts to change it to the recommended settings then nothing loads nor do I receive an error message.

The install appears to go fine. I have not checked the compatibility of the program, but like I had said, the demo version appears to work fine.

Hi, I'm also having trouble with the compatibility while trying to play. The CD is an original and downloading it was no problem. When I try to run it, it doesn't. I've already tried the suggestions you have mentioned but it still doesn't work.

Hi,

This seems to be a fairly common issue.

Downloaded demos, work just fine, but those of us that own the actual game CD and have the CD code can not seem to play.

The install goes fine, and everything installs. The only error message I ever got was one saying I needed Administrator rights, so I went into the properties and ran it as an Administrator....nothing happens. No error, no freeze, & no hint that it might try to start up.

So, I manually set it back and tried it in compatibility for: XP service pack 2, XP service pack 3 & Windows 7. Same result all 3 times. After that I tried your troubleshooter but it seems it just attempted to do everything I already did.

Any help or suggestions?

Same problem here...I can install the program fine, but when I try to run it nothing happens. The troubleshooter said to run in compatibility mode and run as administrator. Done all those things...Tried every version of windows in compatibility mode and nothing.

This totally sucks, and is really pathetic.....I get that technology changes, but this game is from 2002 and ran on Windows XP, how complicated can a game from that era really be? If you are telling me that Microsoft can't solve this very annoying problem, then we are talking about utter and complete oversight in the creation of Windows 10. But that is why I didn't major in Computer Science.....none of those dudes had common sense.

I guess I can't believe that Microsoft wouldn't be able to fix this in their sleep. Quit blaming the developer, their game worked on windows before, Windows 10 just forgot that there is actually classic software out there that is worth keeping compatible...

The following worked for me:

If you are using windows 64bit you need the 64 bit version of the secdrv.sys file. The one included on the simgolf CD is the 32 bit version and you will get errors

I picked up the 64 bit version from from opendll.

Put it in your windowssystem32drivers

Sign the file using the DSEO13B from NGOHQ.

Reboot windows while holding shift down to enter the safemode boot up. This will send you to a screen which gives you several options. I selected the troubleshoot --->Advanced--->Startup settings and chose #7 which is to disable driver signature enforcement. Once it reboots you should then be able to run your game. At this point i believe that if you try to use the use command prompt with administrator privilages and type SC START SECDRV....it will already be running.

After you are done playing just reboot out of safemode and secdrv shouldn't be able to load again until you repeat the safemode process.

Theoretically this should work.

*Solution*

This problem seems to be architecture related. The 64-bit operating system doesn't play well with 'secdrv.SYS'

You have 2 options to fix this:

1. Run the game on a 32-bit system or VirtualMachine ( now 'secdrv.SYS' works and you can play the game )

2. Grab a no-cd patch ( now 'secdrv.SYS' won't be needed so you can play the game )

Have fun playing Sim golf!

Cheers
