The AJCC Cancer Staging Manual is used by physicians and health care professionals throughout the world to facilitate the uniform description and reporting of neoplastic diseases. Proper classification and staging of cancer is essential for the physician to assign proper treatment, evaluate results of management and clinical trials, and to serve as the standard for local, regional and international reporting on cancer incidence and outcome. Significantly expanded and developed by international disease site expert panels, the Eighth Edition AJCC Cancer Staging Manual brings together all the currently available knowledge on staging of cancer at various anatomic sites. In this edition, evidence-based TNM staging is supplemented, as appropriate, by selected molecular markers and newly acquired insights into the molecular underpinnings of cancer. This edition features 12 entirely new staging systems, a wide range of changed or new staging definitions, and a refined emphasis on a personalized-medicine approach. To enhance the print and electronic usability of the cancer staging forms, they are now available exclusively for access and downloading at www.cancerstaging.org. The Eighth Edition AJCC Cancer Staging Manual remains the gold standard reference for oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, cancer registrars and medical professionals world-wide to ensure that all those caring for cancer patients are fully versed in the language of cancer staging.
The American Joint Committee on Cancer's Cancer Staging Manual is used by physicians throughout the world to diagnose cancer and determine the extent to which cancer has progressed. All of the TNM staging information included in this Sixth Edition is uniform between the AJCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer) and the UICC (International Union Against Cancer). In addition to the information found in the Handbook, the Manual provides standardized data forms for each anatomic site, which can be utilized as permanent patient records, enabling clinicians and cancer research scientists to maintain consistency in evaluating the efficacy of diagnosis and treatment. The CD-ROM packaged with each Manual contains printable copies of each of the book’s 45 Staging Forms.

Significantly expanded, expertly and beautifully illustrated, The AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas, 2nd Edition, offers more than 600 illustrations created exclusively for this new edition and is fully updated to reflect the concepts discussed in the 7th Edition of both the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual and its companion Handbook. This Atlas illustrates the TNM classifications of all cancer sites and types included in the 7th Edition of the Manual and visually conceptualizes the TNM classifications and stage groupings. Specifically designed for simplicity and precision, the drawings have been verified through multi-disciplinary review to ensure accuracy and relevancy for clinical use. Every illustration provides detailed anatomic depictions to clarify critical structures and to allow the reader to instantly visualize the progressive extent of malignant disease. In addition, nodal maps are included for each site, appropriate labeling has been incorporated to identify significant anatomic structures, and each illustration is accompanied by an explanatory legend. The AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas, 2nd Edition, is an official publication of the American Joint Committee on Cancer, the recognized international leader in state-of-the-art information on cancer staging. This Atlas has been created as a companion to the updated 7th Edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, which continues to disseminate the importance of anatomical and pathological staging in the management of cancer. This state-of-the-art, invaluable 2nd Edition includes a CD containing PowerPoint slides of all illustrations, additional color, and a user-friendly, easy-to-read layout. The AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas, 2nd Edition will serve as an indispensable reference for clinicians, registrars, students, trainees, and patients.
The AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas can be used alone or in conjunction with the AJCC Manual or Handbook by pathologists, surgeons, registrars, and oncologists who wish to visualize the TNM components for 39 disease sites. Over 400 illustrations provide detailed and thorough anatomic depictions that clarify critical structures and allow the reader to instantly visualize the progressive extent of malignant disease. Numerous labels identify important anatomic structures. The 'Summary of Changes' bulleted points, 'Introduction' text, and 'Anatomy' text from each chapter in the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, Sixth Edition, have all been included in the Atlas, providing a refresher for the experienced clinician and a reference for the trainee. 24 line drawings illustrate the new classification of breast cancer, including the complete pathologic nodal staging and the role of sentinel lymph nodes. These illustrations represent the clearest and most comprehensive rendering of the AJCC Sixth Edition breast cancer staging and will be of value to clinicians, registrars and trainees.
The AJCC CANCER STAGING HANDBOOK PLUS EZTNM®, 6/E is the preeminent system used by physicians and healthcare professionals worldwide to facilitate the uniform description of neoplastic diseases, now including EZTNM®! Designed by a physician for physicians, EZTNM®, compatible for both the Palm and Microsoft OS, provides staging information for 50 different cancer types at the physician's point of care. It calculates the various stages and functions as a database for patient information. The HANDBOOK PLUS EZTNM® will prove to be an invaluable portable tool for the busy medical professional.
This first edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas has been created as a compendium to the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual and Handbook which have now been developed through six editions and which continue to promulgate the importance of anatomical and pathological staging in the management of cancer. This Atlas has been viewed as a companion to illustrate the TNM classifications of all the regions included under the head and neck, digestive, thoracic, musculoskeletal, soft tissue, breast, genital, urinary and gynecologic sites. This monograph has been fully illustrated to give meaningful visualization to the TNM classifications and stage groupings and will serve as a useful reference for the clinician and patient alike. Since there have been changes in staging strategies in the 6th Edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, the differences between the 5th edition and 6th edition have been included throughout the Atlas. This will provide a meaningful comparison for the experienced clinician as well as serve as a teaching reference for the student and trainee. The 432 outstanding illustrations have been developed exclusively for the AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas by Alice Y. Chen, our exceptional medical illustrator. Every illustration provides detailed and thorough anatomic depictions to clarify critical structures and to allow the reader to instantly visualize the progressive extent of malignant disease.Appropriate labeling has been incorporated to identify significant anatomic structures. A significant number (28%) of the illustrations are devoted solely to the representation of the TNM changes which are new in the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual, 6th Edition. Throughout all anatomic sites, the newly developed illustrations reflect concepts that are more completely discussed in the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual and Handbook. The AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas is an official publication of the American Joint Committee on Cancer and reinforces the AJCC’s position as the leader in disseminating state of the art information on TNM staging. The AJCC continues to have as its mission the education of physicians, registrars and patients. The Atlas, a portable and easily referenced representation of the AJCC monographs, continues to enhance this mission. This project has been fully supported by our publishing colleagues at Springer and especially Laura diZerega and Bill Curtis, our longtime friends and AJCC supporters. The editors of this most recent AJCC project wish to reinforce the concept that TNM is a universal “language” which must be applied by all clinicians caring for the cancer patients. In order to make this language come alive, a pictorial representation of clinical and pathological staging is necessary. We dedicate this work to all of our patients and colleagues and hope that they too will benefit from this illustrated resource. The Second Edition of TNM Staging Atlas with Oncoanatomy has been updated to include all new cancer staging information from the Seventh Edition of the AJCC Cancer Staging Manual. The atlas presents cancer staging in a highly visual rapid-reference format, with clear full-color diagrams and TNM stages by organ site. The illustrations are three-dimensional, three-planar cross-sectional presentations of primary anatomy and regional nodal anatomy. They show the anatomic features identifiable on physical and/or radiologic examination and the anatomic extent of cancer spread which is the basis for staging. A color code indicates the spectrum of cancer progression at primary sites (T) and lymph node regions (N). The text then rapidly reviews metastatic spread patterns and their incidence. For this edition, CT or MRI images have been added to all site-specific chapters to further detail cancer spread and help plan treatment. Staging charts have been updated to reflect changes in AJCC guidelines, and survival curves from AJCC have been added.

CDC has created software in the form of a dynamic link library (DLL) to help cancer registries collect data on stage of disease for cancers according to the TNM system of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC). Content from AJCC’s Cancer Staging Manual, 7th edition, has been licensed for use in the application programming interface (API) by NPCR registries. A version without the licensed content can be downloaded from this site. For access to the licensed version, contact cancerinformatics@cdc.gov.

Features

The DLL has two primary functions—

  • Helps cancer data abstractors by providing cancer site-specific picklists of valid codes for the T, N, M, and stage groups, both clinical and pathologic.
  • Helps central registries perform quality control and data consolidation by providing an algorithm to calculate the correct stage group from coded T, N, and M values.

The DLL can be incorporated in cancer registry software programs to support standardized collection of TNM data.
